Havasu decline began over a year ago 2 Years ago Karma: 19
The CVB in Havasu claims the decline in tourism is due to the economy. If that is so why is this article dated over a year ago?

Hotel revenues on decline
Officials, businesses point to oil prices, home sales

By Tony Raap
Thursday, November 15, 2007 9:52 PM MST

Hotel revenue fell sharply in September as concerns about the overall economy deterred many vacationers from traveling over Labor Day, officials said.

The latest financial snapshot of the local tourism industry, released Thursday by the city’s Finance Department, showed that hotel revenue in September dropped by more than $440,000, or 18 percent. First-quarter revenue was down more than $560,000, or 7.65 percent.

Leo Biasucci, general manager of the Island Inn, wasn’t surprised by the figures. He said rising oil prices and falling home sales have hurt tourism.

“Obviously, the economy is not as strong as it used to be,” he said. “People are crunching their bank accounts. The first that goes is traveling.”

The city’s strict behavioral ordinance also might have played a role, Biasucci said.

The law, which imposes heavy fines for public intoxication and nudity, has been praised for making the Bridgewater Channel more family friendly. But critics say it has hurt the local economy by driving away tourists. FOR FULL STORY, SEE TODAY'S NEWS-HERALD.

He cleared the place out and the owners were angy at the fact that he did that. He didn't have to come in with that give me an excuse and I'll arrest you attitude. That's just one story. I'm not taking sides. These guys need dealing with the public mangement classes. Sorry Havasu cop lovers. "

As far as the London Bridge area, that is up to the owner. Wish he would get a move on and do something constructive. "

City gets thumbs up for visitor hospitality

By Jayne Hanson
Saturday, August 30, 2008 9:10 PM MST

Lake Havasu City guests give a positive review for the city’s hospitality. It has been a conscious effort of the city’s hospitality industry to improve customer service interaction with visitors.

“We love it here. It’s our happy place,” said Megan Rumbolz, of Fullerton, Calif., “Everybody has been very nice.”

Lake Havasu City citizens and traveling visitors celebrate Labor Day weekend by relaxing in the sun, boating, and, in the spirit of the holiday, doing anything but working.

“It’s good to get away from California, to get away from the Marine Corps” said Marine Casey Baker, who is stationed at Camp Pendelton, Calif., “I just love it out here.”

The Labor Day celebration in Bridgewater Channel began as a low-key event Saturday.

“We love it here,” said Gary Rainwater, of Kingman. Rainwater brought his friends from Ontario, Calif., and Riverside, Calif., to Lake Havasu City for the weekend. “It’s been good,” Rainwater said, “We’ve never had a problem with police or anyone here.”

The customer service push in Lake Havasu City’s hospitality industry also focuses on local law enforcement.

“Police have been great, more friendly,” said Jim Fox, of Lake Havasu City, “It seems everyone has learned a little bit, too.”

" Rejoice- so you count 6 people. I have counted more who post about enjoying it here and have had no bad run -ins with the police. Now you go and figure out why that could be... "

" I am out in the community - I talk to more people who have positives to say about our city and its police force than the other way around. Guess it is because I tend to see more law abiding citizens who want to have a good time without getting drunk, disorderly, and criminal. Maybe it is the company you keep? Drunk, irrational, rowdy criminal people should have encounters with the law and see the judge. I think the safety of the citizens should come before a few who want to 'party down with no consequences.' And by the posts (altho they are unfortunately all accused of being me - the only cop lover on here) I think many in the community agree. "

familiar story wrote on Aug 31, 2008 2:18 PM:

" Jeff, yes yours is a familar story that we hear time and again when a problem with the police crops up, but under several screen names. Truth is that tourism was declining two years before the economy tanked and we have few tourists then other nearby areas percentage wise.

You also mentioned that you own a home here and it seems that the ones targeted do not. It also does not change the news articles in so.cal, radio shows and word of mouth.

So while a majority of tourist do not have an unwarranted encounter with police, it does not mean that none happens and even one is too many. "

The police have never been a problem to me or my wife. I called them once and they were great. Then again, we don't do illegal stuff, so maybe that is why we never have bad encounters with them. Hope all have a great weekend!!!! "

" Great job editor!

The newspaper here has recognized the thousands of posts on the net, the complaints in other So.Cal newspapers and forums, the bumper stickers in boat shops all over So.Cal and the even radio talk shows.

So try to make light of it but this newspaper did a good thing by recognizing the problem and reporting the facts. "

Desertrat wrote on Aug 31, 2008 7:57 AM:

The newspaper puts too much stock in this forum because it is their's- that is why they mention its 'influence'. Everybody (yes, even the powers that be) recognize that there is no accountability, and no facts on here. We have seen one bad mooring ticket. So I doubt anything has changed except the reporting. And for the one in the robe, don't go in front of him if you don't like him! "

Jim Fox was right, maybe everyone has learned a little. It is good to see that all the tourist who have been complaining have accomplished something.

Only one stumbling block to replace, the one in a black robe.

Jayne Hanson, good job on the article, not the nonsense that was written yesterday about the "city being packed" but low key event. "

The local's down here have thier heads buried so far up thier butts over this issue.
We had a terrible tourism season, far more than other areas around us and its because of the idiot Magistrate we have on the bench here.
This guy is almost as bad as Taylor but this guy did not have the juice to wiggle his way out of a reprimand.
